Tutorial Let's Play

Hi guys, Here's a quick look at the new tutorial section of the game. Created in order to teach some of the game's basic features and mechanics to new players.

This is the first Let's Play I've ever recorded, so please be kind ;-)

If you're in the neighbourhood, be sure to stop by our stand at Eirtakon next week for a "hands-on" preview of the game itself.

Shiny New Animations

Finally, we've got rid of our place-holder sprites in favour of some new shiny ones. And just in time for our presentation of Licky Lizard at Eirtakon too. Here's a quick look at each of the new animations Paul has been working on.

Firstly, in the vain of classic 2D platformers like Sonic and such, we wanted a cheeky idle animation. Something to tease the player if they were taking their time a little too much:

Next up - the one you'll probably see most as you try to outrun the rising lava:

And lastly, your most effective tool for reaching the highest of heights - the jump and grapple:

Licky gets his own Logo

Well, technically BezDoesGames gets the logo, but Licky is certainly in it. This is to be used in the start screen of the game and perhaps in some promotional materials. We are currently working on business cards design as well as on printing some posters for Eirtakon. Do not forget to order tickets for the event between 13th and 15th November in Croke Park in Dublin. We have a surprise for you there! Ah yes, and this is our BezDoesGames logo:

Licky Lizard is getting ready for Eirtakon in November

The little Licky is busy climbing up the volcano vent and is trying to avoid the lava that is constantly coming up... And the game's developer is busy fixing some bugs and adjusting game functionality before we can show Licky to the world for the first time. Yes, it is happening! We are happy to confirm that you can see us at the upcoming Eirtakon anime and manga convention that takes place between 13th and 15th November 2015 in Dublin's Croke Park. Licky Lizard to do list

There is a lot left to do for the game to be ready for the show, but we are very excited about it and looking forward to seeing you there!

Details coming soon and any recommendations regarding what you would like to experience from the game at Eirtakon are welcome. Just drop me a message to alina[at]bezdoesgames.com. Thanks!

The Spring Samurai

This is a short track I wrote for a game no longer being developed, The game doesn't look likely to ever surface so I thought I'd post this track here, rather than let it go to waste. The Spring Samurai - Main Theme

The game was set to tell the story of a samurai on a quest for revenge against the shogun who destroyed his family (or something like that. Don't ask me, I didn't write it).

The track would have played over the main menu/title sequence for the game. It's an melee action game, and had a retro "top-Down", Zelda-like perspective. One of the main things I was trying to achieve with this theme was to add some gravitas to what could very easily have been dismissed as your average action-adventure romp. I'l let you be the judge of whether or not I achieved that.

Hope you enjoy, John.

Special thanks to Alina Ecke, Paul Berry, Dan Baker and Ferg Smyth.

The Second Coming

Typical. A blog with one solitary post. And it all started so well - a game developer with aspirations to change the gaming landscape forever, all the while keeping the hordes of hungry fans "in-the-loop" with regular, exciting updates about new features, the latest artwork and whatever other pretentious crap came to mind. Oh well, shit happens.

Anyway, while I'm here, here's a breakdown of some of the more major features I've been working on since my last post:

Throwing Rocks Now you can throw rocks that destroy platforms. Useful for getting you out of a jam, when there's an awkwardly placed platform in your way.

Hidden Waterfalls Break the right kind of platform and it'll reveal a waterfall that'll "cool" the lava and slow it down.

Falling Boulders Something to add a bit of chaos to the mix.

Thermometer A good indication of how much trouble the player is in.

and my personal favourite:

Geysers To give a player in need a little boost and some extra breathing room.

Other stuff I've been working on includes: health pickups; menus; art.

Check it all out below, John.

Introducing Licky Lizard

Hey there, So it seems my hand has been forced... I wasn't planning on showing off my game at this early stage, but with the recent reveal of Yooka-Laylee, and the similarities between the Yooka character and the title character of my own game, I felt it was probably best. So here it goes:

Introducing Licky Lizard

Licky Lizard

Licky is the star of my new game Licky the Lucky Lizard Lives Again.

Licky was born atop of a violent volcano, when one day his unhatched egg was shaken from its nest by a terrible earthquake. His egg bounced out of the nest and into the mouth of the volcano. The egg cracked upon impact with the rocks, and Licky was awoken to this harsh reality.

This is where you, the player, come in. You must help Licky to escape. To climb out of the volcano and reunite him with the family he never met.

Licky's long tongue is the player's greatest tool. With it, you can grapple to higher platforms and swing your way to freedom.

But don't look down, because with every leap you make towards freedom, the faster the lava beneath you rises. So you'll have to be quick!

In Licky the Lucky Lizard Lives Again (god, that's a mouthful) players will compete with friends to reach greater heights at quicker speeds. And along the way, use every environmental object available to gain an advantage.

More to be revealed about this soon, so stay tuned!

John.
